TheJMom.com: Let Your Mom Do the Matchmaking For You

Matchmaker, matchmaker make me a match. As Hodel said in Fiddler on the Roof, "Well, somebody has to arrange the matches, young people can't decide these things themselves." Enough with these dating sites like Match.com, OKCupid, and JDate, TheJMom.com is here to take care of business and find you a nice Jewish boy (or girl). Just in time for Hanukkah, The JMom is free to sign up and free for a year until Jan. 1, 2011.

TheJMom is a dating site for you, but really, it's for your mom. Your mom (or dad, or uncle, or whoever wants to play matchmaker) makes you a profile, and then searches other profiles to find you a perfect match and then set you up. Matchmaking is an important part of Jewish culture. According to MyJewishLearning.com, there's even a day marked especially for matchmaking and love, called Tu B'Av

TheJMom isn't the first online Jewish matchmaking site. SawYouAtSinai.com is another Jewish dating and matchmaking service. Instead of having member profiles available for everyone to see and browse, members choose a matchmaker to look on their behalf and send them matches that seem promising.

Surprisingly, TheJMom wasn't started by a Jewish mother, it was launched by a brother and sister. The story is that after a little nagging, the brother, Brad, let his mother look at his online dating profile. He came back after a few hours to find his mother still sucked into the site, with a list of about 10 different girls for him to contact. His mom put more effort and time into the process than he ever would want to, and she enjoyed doing it. "According to the site,

"Dating is not easy these days for young professionals. It takes lots of time, money, and can be very stressful. Kids should listen to their parents when they tell you that you're not going to find prince charming in a bar. We are launching TheJMom.com to give the power of matchmaking through the internet to parents. You can browse potential partners in your child's city, email their parents for more information about their children and family, and set them up on a casual date."

So, what are you waiting for? Send this link to your mom. Or moms, sign your son or daughter up now if you ever want to have grandchildren.
