Live Nation iPhone App Review

livenation_main.JPGLive Nation Entertainment announced its Live Nation App for iPhone/iPod Touch today and is now available on the App Store for the U.S. and Canada. With the Live Nation App, concert fans will have access to Live Nation North American concert listings, receive alerts on app-exclusive pre-sales and last minute tickets for favorite shows, purchase authentic tickets directly through the app, and browse set lists. The app will also deliver concert photos and concert updates - and even let fans know what song is playing - at select Live Nation shows.

The Lowdown: With the Live Nation app, fans can discover concerts and favorite artists nearby, keep track of favorite artists and concerts, easily and quickly purchase tickets, and check-in with friends at concerts via Foursquare.

Provided you allow Live Nation to use your current location, the home screen is already populated with events for you to browse through. There are "Featured" artist in the main tile area that you can flip through, and underneath that are events happening today. You can choose to sort events by "nearby" "My" (all of your events purchased via Live Nation, online or via the app), and by calendar - The days that have an event scheduled with have a dot in them. You can also search for events by keyword.

I already had a concert in mind when downloading the app. Using my current location, Live Nation quickly found the concert just by typing in the artist's name. Once you've found your concert and venue, you have the option to find tickets, learn more about the artist or preview a set list (if applicable), or learn more about the venue (address, phone number, directions).

Buying tickets via the Live Nation App is similar to getting them online. You can find tickets by either the number of tickets, price, or section. If applicable, you can also see a section chart of the venue. Once you've made your selections, Live Nation will find your tickets. Caution: closing the app while it is in the process of finding/buying will cause you to "lose your place in line", but the app works fast enough that you don't have to worry about missing anything else going on in the nether-regions of your device.

It really helps to register for a free Live Nation account. That way, you can save credit card information to your account to make completing the transaction even faster via the app. Once you're done, a confirmation message is sent to your email account on file, and a small ticket shows up next to the event to signify you've purchased tickets, and the event is places in your "My" tab (they need to get a better name for that). You also have the option to add the event to your calendar and/or share your events via Twitter and Facebook.

My Verdict: Everything a person needs to browse concerts and buy tickets can be found on the Live Nation app for iPhone/iPod Touch. So much so that going online to Live Nation.com may just be a thing of the past.
